Congratulations to Susan Davis on being selected as the 2026-2027 Central Carolina Academy Teacher of the Year! A dedicated and passionate mathematics educator, Ms. Davis brings over 30 years of diverse experience within the North Carolina education system to the classroom.
Ms. Davis has a one-year lease on this 2026 Honda Accord from Sanford Honda as part of being the CCA Teacher of the Year.
From Ms. Davis… My journey began shortly after graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1991, when I accepted my first teaching position at BroadCreek Middle School in Newport. There, I discovered my dual passion for academic instruction and student mentorship, serving as both an 8th-grade math teacher and a cheerleading coach.
My career progressed as I transitioned to Lee County Schools, where I dedicated over two decades to the community. Throughout my tenure at East Lee and West Lee Middle Schools, I taught a wide range of courses, including 8th grade Math, Math 1, Math 2, and the AVID elective. I have always believed that student engagement extends beyond the final bell; consequently, I spent many years on the sidelines coaching volleyball, boys’ soccer, and girls’ soccer, helping student-athletes develop discipline and teamwork.
In 2014, my career shifted toward systemic leadership when I was appointed as the Lee County Curriculum Specialist. In this role, I worked closely with mathematics educators across the district to design instructional frameworks and mentor teachers. Beyond the county level, I had the privilege of serving on numerous educational leadership teams within the state, collaborating with other experts to help build and refine the math curriculum for all students across North Carolina. This work allowed me to gain a bird’s-eye view of math standards and contribute to the academic success of students statewide.
Though I reached the milestone of retirement from the county in 2022, my heart remained in the classroom. I was honored to be selected as a founding faculty member for the inaugural team at CCA. Currently, I serve as the 8th grade Math and Math 1 teacher, where I combine my decades of statewide curriculum expertise with my foundational love for daily student interaction. My goal remains unchanged: to foster a supportive learning environment and to share an enduring love of mathematics with every student who enters my classroom.
